Dextrin is divided into two categories: yellow dextrin and white dextrin. Dextrin obtained by direct roasting is commonly known as "British Gum", or roasted dextrin, which is brown. It can be decomposed at lower temperature by adding acid roasting. The color of the obtained product is generally light yellow or white, which is called white dextrin.
The main purpose of dextrin is as an adhesive. Dextrin is used as an additive for starch in warp sizing. The purpose is to reduce the viscosity of starch and improve the permeability of the slurry. The starch slurry added with dextrin is easy to desizing, but the adhesive force is poor, and the serosa is poor, brittle and hard. It is often mixed with PVA for sizing of viscose fiber yarn and cupro fiber filament, and it is not easy to fluff when the yarn is divided. After the widespread use of synthetic sizing and modified starch, dextrin is rarely used in warp sizing formulations.
Maltodextrin is widely used in health products and other industries, etc.
